The Long Explanation:
I've been a piano teacher for a long time and have had many different types of students. I have found that the number one reason kids want to quit piano is because they can't read their notes well. As I taught my own children, I realized that the books we were using taught the notes one time and then didn't ever do anything to review or reinforce those notes very well. My kids started learning to play the piano by just following the finger numbers that are next to the notes instead of reading the notes themselves. This works until about level 2 or 3, and then it doesn't work anymore. We've had many tears when learning new songs, and no one ever wants to practice.
I knew there had to be a better way. People need a better foundation so that reading music becomes easy and enjoyable. That's why I made this program.
I began with the children's story "Treble in Grand Staff." There are so many ways to learn notes that don't work well. Here are just a few of the sayings "All Cows Eat Grass, All Cars Eat Gas, Good Boys Do Fine Always, Good Burritos Don't Fall Apart, Space Spells FACE, Every Good Boy Does Fine, Gorillas Buy Donuts For Alligators, Good Boys Deserve Fudge Anyways." It can get confusing. I thought that if I could build a story and a picture that teaches notes, you'd be using different parts of your brain and learning styles to remember where the notes are. After many re-writes, "Treble in Grand Staff" was born. Dude (the note D), discovers that a Furry Goblin (F and G) has moved into his secret Beach (B) spot. Furry Goblin starts causing trouble in Grand Staff, and Dude discovers the power of kindness in solving problems. It's a cute story, and it really works!
To go along with "Treble in Grand Staff," I wanted to create a fun workbook that would review the notes over and over and over again. "Notes," was originally just for my own kids, but when it worked so well, I decided to make it available for others. "Notes" can actually just be added to any music program if someone needs a little extra help memorizing their music notes.
I can't tell you how many people have asked me how to find a piano teacher, or to be their piano teacher. It's really hard these days to find lessons, commit to it weekly, and then pay for it, especially if you have multiple kids. After creating the children's book and the workbook, I decided I'd love to give everyone a way to learn music. "Learn to Play Piano" combines everything together along with ear training, finger exercises, songs, reviews, and more and teaches you to play the piano in an easier, more engaging way.
I've also had many people tell me that they just don't want to buy a piano, they don't have room for them, or they don't want to tune them every year. So, after much product research, I found the keyboards that I sell. My whole house is full of them at this point, but they are worth it. They are high quality, and a great price for anyone starting out.
Whew! That's way more than you ever wanted to know, and if you made it to where you are reading now, you are one of those amazing people that collects all the information they can. If you have any questions, please contact me through this website. I'd love to hear from you!
